There’s just something special about mixed dogs. They can bring excitement and fun to our lives that are unmatched. If you’ve been paying attention to what we post at Days of a Domestic Dad, you would know that my family and I have always been dog lovers, so when we decided to add another dog to our household, we knew we wanted a mixed breed.
We did a lot of research before deciding on the perfect dog for our family. We ultimately decided on a mix of two breeds that we knew would be great together – the Labrador Retriever and the Golden Retriever, which resulted in our dog being dubbed a “Goldador.”
The Story of Our Goldador
Our Goldador has brought so much joy and happiness to our lives, and we can’t imagine life without her. She’s always up for playing fetch or going on walks, and she loves nothing more than cuddling up with us on the couch.
We’re so happy that we decided to add a mixed dog to our family, and we would highly recommend doing the same to anyone looking for a new pet!
Why Should You Get a Mixed Dog?
If our story didn’t get through your cold exterior, then maybe having a mixed dog for a more practical use could be your thing. Have you ever heard the term “Wolf dog”? Yes, several park rangers have dogs specifically breed with wolves to help them patrol their local parks and forests because of the wolf’s heightened sense of smell.
The hybrid is used to locate people who may be lost or injured in densely forested areas that are often hard to see. It’s also an excellent way for rangers to spot illegal hunters since wolves can detect any type of animal scent and has a 100 times greater sense of smell than those of a dog.
When it comes to mixed dogs, you can see that they really do have the best of both worlds. They get the intelligence and playfulness of a domesticated dog breed while also retaining some of the wildness and strength of their wolf ancestors – perfect for those who love spending time outdoors!
Can Mixed Dogs Be Service Dogs?
Mixed breeds often make great service or companion dogs, too. They have the right combination of loyalty and intelligence, making them ideal for this type of work.
A mixed-breed dog can even be trained as an emotional support animal (ESA). If you’re struggling with mental health issues like depression or anxiety, having a loving companion nearby may help alleviate some symptoms.
The Bottom Line
In other words, you should consider adopting a mixed-breed dog if you’re looking for an animal that is loyal, smart, and playful. You’ll get all three traits in one package! Plus, it’s better for the environment since so many homeless animals are waiting to be adopted from shelters around America today.
